It was 9AM in Los Angeles when Lauren Ruth Ward picked up the phone from her home to discuss her musical journey with us. Three years ago, the 29 year-old artist was still a hairstylist in her hometown on the East Coast before she becomes full-time the authentic rock star she is now. If Lauren Ruth Ward isn’t already on your radar, it’s time for you to get to know her. Very particular about controlling her image, Lauren Ruth Ward has already been compared to a ‘‘rock and roll angel’’ by NYLON and we couldn’t agree more with this point of view.

I felt like it was daunting to switch things up completely

Back to a few of years ago, we wouldn’t have found Lauren Ruth Ward on stage or in studio performing her music, even though she started being involved in the arts during her teenage years. ‘‘When I was about 13, I started playing guitar and writing songs. I didn’t really take music seriously,’’ she states. ‘‘I’ve always had a couple of hobbies and a couple of passions going on. Music was a passion. When I was younger, I was one of those kids who would have said like five different things if you had asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.’’

You support my music and that brought me here. A tour is what I have on the wishlist right now

Originally from Baltimore, Lauren moved out to California two years ago and started playing out to see what would happen. ‘‘In Baltimore in Maryland, there is definitely a lot of culture, a lot of art. But I’ve already had a full life there as a hairstylist. I felt like it was a bit daunting to switch things up completely, I didn’t know how to do it. I also thought it wouldn’t be easy to start fresh and to do it in a city that has a really high volume of music.’’
